Badgers take third at Big Ten Championships

de Vaal leads UW with eighth-place finish
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Wisconsin men's cross country team battled to a third-place finish at the 2025 Big Ten Championships on Friday morning at the Forest Akers East Gold Course in East Lansing, Michigan.
Sophomore Christian de Vaal set the pace for the Badgers with an eighth-place finish, crossing the line in 23 minutes, 36.2 seconds. A tight Wisconsin pack saw three runners place in the top-10, with Matan Ivri and Liam Newhart round out the ranks with times of 23:41.5 and 23:41.6 respectively, to help secure UW's podium spot. The trio earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for their efforts.
Bryce Stachewicz and Micah Wilson were the final scorers for the Badgers, taking 31st and 34th place and finishing within less than five seconds of each other, clocking times of 24:11.0 and 24:15.1.
Oregon's Abdel Laadjel captured the individual Big Ten title with a winning time of 23:11.6, helping the Ducks claim the team championship with 36 points. Michigan State tallied 68 points for second while the Badgers totaled 90 points to come in third.
Up Next: Wisconsin turns its focus to NCAA competition, heading to Evansville, Indiana for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 14, as the Badgers look to punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships. The top-two teams from each of the nine regions will automatically advance to the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Missouri.
