Postgame Quotes: Softball vs. Ohio State - April 3

Head Coach Yvette Healy

On how she thought the team did overall:
"Ohio State is in the top 25 for a reason so when you face a team like that and the wind is blowing the way it is, you know you just have to be in for a fight and that's what I'm most proud of. I think our team just kept battling back and forth, they didn't lose their head. The offense just kept firing back and even Taylor-Paige (Stewart) after one big inning where the ball was just kind of flying, then she put up four zeros pitching to shut down the last four innings so that's awesome. When you see a pitching staff do that, it just shows that it's gritty."

On the little things that can help defeat a top-25 team such as Ohio State:
"I think it's a lot of emotion. I'm super happy, you play a top-25 team and you split with them and get a tie, that's a win for us because the better team should win more games and on paper they're the top-25 team, so for us to go one win and one loss and then a tie, I think the advantage goes to us. I'm pretty happy, you always get greedy and want more but that's an awesome effort by the Badgers."

On what the team can improve on for future games:
"You try to shut hitters down more. Obviously they scored and had a couple of big innings but I was proud of the team effort. I think everybody threw and contributed and then the hitters did too. When the ball is coming at them fast, you're going to have a couple of errors, but I was so proud of our team's composure and they had the ability to keep battling the whole time and make it really exciting against an outstanding opponent."

Sophomore third baseman Kelsey Jenkins

On what she did well in today's games:
"I think a lot of it has to do with the way we prep. Our coaches do a really great job on scouting on the pitchers that we will be facing, so we watch a bunch of film on them and know a lot of their tendencies. So I think that it is a big boost of confidence going into the box knowing like, 'I pretty much have already hit off of you because I almost know every pitch you can throw,' so I think that's a big thing."

On her feelings of the games this weekend:
"I hate losing but it's awesome. Ohio State is in the top 25, so that is awesome to play them at home and basically split with them and then get a tie. It's a bummer that they have to catch a plane home and we can't finish that game. Coach Schneider was talking about stuff like that, that you will think about for the rest of your life in our meeting today and that is definitely something that, like what would have happened if we would have played the inning. I think it's something that's tough but the fact that we came out almost winning the weekend is pretty great for the Badgers and the route we're going to."

Junior Pitcher Kirsten Stevens
On how to approach preparing for Ohio State:
"So for a team like Ohio State who is definitely known for their offense, the best way to beat them would be mixing speeds, really hitting spots and I thought today's stack did an excellence job working as a team, hitting those spots and really trying to fool them."

On almost beating Ohio State:
"It was a little frustrating that we couldn't finish the inning but honestly we went toe-to-toe with this team. I think a lot of people weren't really sure that we would be able to do that this season. But we're here to show people that we're here to play good softball. I think as a team we made some great adjustments on defense, pitching, and also at the bat. It was probably some of the best hitting we've seen in a while from the Badgers."
