AUSTIN, Texas – Wisconsin's
Clark Carter made a statement for the Wisconsin diving team on the first day of the Texas Diving Invite on Thursday. The freshman, in only the fourth collegiate competition of his career, inked a sixth-place finish on the 1-meter discipline with a score of 306.20 points.
Carter advanced to the final of the event after his seventh-place debut at the Texas meet, recording a score of 279.15 points.
Briadam Herrera of Miami won the event with a toppling score of 436.00 points after the seris of six dives.
Carter's teammates of
Dan Cech,
Matthew Aronson,
Andrew Pearce, Ethan O'Neil and
Max Reynolds finished 10th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th in the preliminary round, respectively.
In the women's 3-meter event,
Ashley Peterson led the way in the preliminary round with an 11th-place finish and a score of 281.75.
Dana Liva finished 14th, while
Hazel Hertting and
Gabriella Comunale were 15th and 19th, respectively.
Alexandra Hafey rounded out the Badger women with a 20th-place finish.
The Badgers return tomorrow at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center for the second day of competition. The men will compete in the 3-meter event, while the women will tackle the 1-meter discipline.
