Badgers begin spring racing with San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women's rowing team, currently training in Florida for Spring Break, will begin its racing season ranked No. 11 in the country, according to the 2017 USRowing/CRCA Preseason Poll.
The Badgers, who matched their second-highest NCAA finish last spring with a ninth-place result, garnered 237 points in the preseason poll for their 11th-place spot in the poll.
The No. 11 ranking is the highest preseason mark for the Badgers since the squad checked in at No. 10 to start the 2012 campaign.
The Badgers are one of five Big Ten squads in the preseason rankings, led by second-ranked Ohio State and fourth-ranked Michigan. The 11th-ranked Badgers are listed third among conference programs, with Indiana ranked at No. 16 and Michigan State at No. 20. Iowa is listed among those receiving votes.
Defending NCAA champion California earned 19 of 25 first-place votes to grab the top spot in the opening poll, while Ohio State and Washington shared the remaining first-place marks.
The Badgers officially open their 2017 schedule on April 1-2 at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay in San Diego.
