MADISON, Wis. – After their team’s fourth-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional, four members of the Wisconsin women’s cross country team were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their performances.
Senior captain Caitlin Comfort led the group with her third-place effort of 20 minutes, 37 seconds. Comfort earned All-Great Lakes Region honors for the fourth time in as many years.
Two newcomers were also honored. Transfer Kyla Chapman ran in the regional, only her second race for the Badgers, and took 11th with a time of 20:54 -- second runner to cross the finish line for Wisconsin. Chapman earned the first all-region recognition of her career.
Also claiming her first all-region honor is freshman Gabrielle Anzalone. Anzalone placed 24th in the overall regional standings, clocking in at 21:14. Anzalone ran in fourth for the Badgers and has finished in UW’s top five of every race this season.
Junior Ashley Beutler was the Badgers’ third runner and came in 12th overall. Beutler’s time of 20:54 earned her the second all-region accolade of her career, the first of which was earned in her 2008 freshman year with a 17th-place finish.
