MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's cross country team competes in its final meet of the regular season this Friday, when the Badgers head to the Oshkosh Open for their final tune-up before championship season gets underway.

The 6-kilometer race is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (CT), at UW-Oshkosh's course in  Winneconne, Wis.

The meet gives the UW the opportunity to post strong performances before heading to the 2012 Big Ten Championship. After their 30th-place finish at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Friday, the Badgers are looking to close out the regular season on a high note.

At last season's Oshkosh Open, Wisconsin posted a near perfect score of 16 points and won the meet by claiming eight of the top nine finishing positions. The Badgers are hoping to post a similar performance Friday, and will be using the meet to finalize their championship roster before heading into championship season.

Wisconsin will use the meet to find who will join sophomore Gabrielle Anzalone and senior Ashley Beutler as its top runners.

Anzalone led the way for the Badgers with an impressive 28th-place finish in a time of 20:11 at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational last Friday. She placed in the top 30 against a tough field that included 20 of the 30 teams ranked in the USTFCCA national coaches' poll.

Beutler also ran a strong race, finishing in 58th place with a time of 20:34. Wisconsin will need younger runners to step up their performance if they are to qualify for an at-large qualifying bid to the NCAA championship in November.

Following the Oshkosh Open, the Badgers travel to East Lansing, Mich., for the 2012 Big Ten Championship on Sunday, Oct. 28.
