Wisconsin Wins Loyola Lakefront Invitational





The Wisconsin womens cross team won the 31st Annual Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on Saturday, placing five runners among the top 12 overall finishers. Senior Hilary Edmondson won the individual title in a time of 17:18, seven seconds better than the runner-up, Anne Shadle of Nebraska. Edmondson moved up from third place over the last half kilometer to take the title.

We wanted to get out quickly and establish our position, head coach Peter Tegen said. With three kilometers to go, we really started racing. Im obviously very happy with the way things worked out.

The 16th-ranked Badgers finished with 39 points, one better than second-place Nebraska. Fellow Big Ten Conference members Purdue and Northwestern finished third and fourth, respectively. There were a total of 52 teams and 560 individuals competing in the race.

Fifth-year senior Maggie Guiney continued to impress, placing sixth overall in a time of 17:44. Sophomore Heidi Lane also carded a top-10 finish, placing ninth in 17:56. Rounding out the top five for UW were junior Linsey Blaisdell and senior Sarah Kolpin who finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in 17:59 and 18:00.

Sophomore `A Havahla Haynes finished 23rd while freshman Marcia Taddy was 51st. Senior Leslie Patterson placed 68th in 18:59 and freshman Sarah Konkel was 86th in 19:09.
