MADISON, Wis. -- After leading the Badgers to the team title at the Panorama Farms Invitational Saturday, Wisconsin senior Ashley Beutler was honored as the Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week by the league on Tuesday.
Beutler ran the 5-kilometer course in Earlysville, Va., in a time of 17 minutes, 43.8 seconds and finished in fourth place overall. She led the Badgers to their third-consecutive win to open the season, competing against a strong field in the meet hosted by No. 15 Virginia.
Last season, Beutler earned her second All-Great Lakes Region honor after placing third for Wisconsin and 12th overall at the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional. That performance helped the Badgers qualify as a team for the 2011 NCAA Championship, where they ran to a 24th-place finish last November.
Beutler is the first Big Ten Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honoree since Dani Fischer was recognized on Oct. 25, 2011.
The Badgers are back in action Saturday at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic in Louisville, Ky. The meet will be a preview of the course that plays host to the NCAA championship in November.
