MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women’s cross country team is ranked 26th in the nation according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) nation preseason poll which was released on Tuesday. In Monday’s Great Lakes Regional poll, the Badgers were ranked third.

UW is one of six Big Ten teams appearing in the national poll, led by 21st-ranked Minnesota. Michigan State (23), Penn State (24), Michigan (27) and Iowa (29) also appear in the rankings while Indiana and Ohio State are in the others receiving votes category.

Many of the top women’s cross country teams will descend upon Madison for the second-annual Wisconsin adidas Invitational on October 2. Among the teams scheduled to compete, Florida is ranked eighth in the preseason poll while Syracuse checks in at No. 9 and Michigan is ranked 27th. Participants Indiana, North Carolina, Nebraska and Ohio State are also receiving votes.
