Comfort leads charge for Badgers at Roy Griak Invitational

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Led by senior captain Caitlin Comfort, the Wisconsin women’s cross country team raced its way to a 12th-place finish Saturday at the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.

The first Badger to cross the finish line, Comfort took 32nd overall with a time of 21 minutes, 25.8 seconds.

As a team, Wisconsin took 12th place out of 26 with a total of 295 points.

Close behind Comfort was freshman Gabrielle Anzalone, running in her first collegiate 6-kilometer race. Anzalone clocked in at 21:45.2 for 49th place.

Junior Hanna Knurr followed with a finish of 65th place and a time of 21:58.2.

Mere seconds behind Knurr was junior Ashley Beutler, who clocked in at at 22:00.1 and in 68th place.

Sophomore Kiah Ehrke rounded out the Badgers’ scoring times with an 81st-place finish at 22:07.3.

California and No. 8-ranked Iowa State tied for the win with 128 pts. Arizona took third with 131 pts.

Wisconsin competed an additional five runners that didn’t factor in to the team scoring. Freshman Jenna McMiller finished sixth for the Badgers and 99th overall with a time of 22:15.3.

Sophomore Theresa Selestow crossed the finish line just steps behind at 22:18.2 for 102nd place overall and seventh for the Badgers.

Fellow sophomore Liga Blyholder took 126th at 22:33.3, and senior Dani Fischer ran to a 143rd-place finish at a time of 22L41.3.

Freshman Colleen McNulty wrapped up the Badgers’ finishers with a time of 23.20.9 for a finish of 187th place.

The Badgers take to the road again next weekend, this time headed for Springfield, Ore., and the Bill Dellinger Invitational. The race begins at 2 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
