Panthers out-battle Bulldogs for sweep

MADISON, Wis. – The Milwaukee Panthers (5-4) took down Drake University (0-8) in a straight-set sweep Saturday morning at the UW Field House. The Panthers improve to 1-1 at the InnTowner Invitational while the Bulldogs fall to 0-2.

Drake kept the match close throughout, but it was Milwaukee that made the key plays to pull out the win in three close sets, 25-20, 25-19, 25-23.

The Bulldogs won the battle at the net with 12 blocks compared to the Panther’s six, but Milwaukee took a clear advantage in hitting percentage, .204 versus .064 for Drake.

Milwaukee’s Julie Kolinske led all players with 13 kills. Kolinske finished with a double-double, also recording 11 digs. Bentley Mancini led the Bulldogs with 10 kills.

Drake wraps up tournament play this afternoon taking on North Dakota State at 5 p.m. while the Panthers face Wisconsin at 7 p.m. tonight to conclude play.
