Bison top Panthers in opening match

MADISON, Wis. - North Dakota State pulled off a 3-2 thriller over Milwaukee in the opening match of the 2012 InnTowner Invitational Friday night at the UW Field House.

The Bison jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of 25-21 victories. North Dakota State hit .242 in the first set and .438 in the second.

The Panthers were ready for a comeback and turned the tables with a 25-18 third-set win and a 25-21 fourth-set victory.

Milwaukee and North Dakota State traded points for most of the fifth set with the Bison coming out on top with the 16-14 win and match victory. The Bison turned in a robust .423 hitting percentage in the fifth set compared to .265 for the Panthers.

North Dakota State out-blocked Milwaukee 12-5 in the match, with NDSU's Megan Lambertson turning in six.

Milwaukee's Elizabeth Egerer and Julie Kolinske led all players with 22 kills each, while North Dakota State's Joki Brynn contributed 20.
