MADISON, Wis. – Romana Kriskova, a junior on the Wisconsin volleyball team, had arthroscopic surgery on her left knee Monday and will miss several weeks of practice. The transfer from VCU is expected to be back during the non-conference season.
“It sounds like surgery went well,” head coach Kelly Sheffield said. “She was in good spirits this morning. We are looking forward to getting her back in the gym soon.”
Kriskova, a 6-3 outside hitter, was the 2013 Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year and earned honorable mention All-America honors. She averaged 4.83 kills per set last season for the Rams, which ranked fifth nationally, tallying 20-plus kills in 12 matches. The Bratislva, Slovakia, native had double-figure kills in 33 matches while hitting. 269. She also led the A-10 with 50 service aces, averaging 0.39 per set.
Kriskova is one of three newcomers on the 2014 Badger team, joining transfer Erin Juley, a 5-10 junior setter from Long Beach State, and freshman Kelli Bates.
The Badger opened practice on Aug. 9 and host their annual Cardinal vs. White scrimmage on Aug. 23 at 3:30 p.m. in the UW Field House. Fans are invited to the Fan Fest at 2 p.m. for on and off the court games with members of the team. Both events are free.
