MADISON, Wis. - Badger freshman Lauren Carlini had a busy summer but the highlight would have to be attending the Gatorade National Player of the Year awards ceremony and ESPYs in Los Angeles in July.
Carlini, a 6-2 setter/outside hitter, was named the Gatorade National Player of the Year in volleyball. She is only the second Badger to earn a national sport award, following in the footsteps of men's cross country runner Reed Connor, who won in 2008-09.
The Badgers open fall training camp on Aug. 12 under first-year head coach Kelly Sheffield. Sheffield returns four starters and 11 letterwinners from last season's 17-16 team.
