The players will be sending daily updates from the A2 program with the first entry coming from senior Annemarie Hickey.
First day arriving to the USA A2 team. What an exciting day!
We hoped off the plane at Dallas, Texas, with dreams and bags in our hands.
Welcome to the land of fame, excess, whoa are we gonna fit in?
Jumped in the mini van, here we are for our first time
Look to our right and we see In-N-Out Burger.
This is all so crazy, everybody seems so athletic.
Our tummy's turnin' and we are not feelin' homesick.
Ellen, Courtney, and I were all ready to get into the gym and show the coaches what we were capable of. At first, things my have been a little intimidating but I mean who wouldn't think they were, this is USA VOLLEYBALL people, top-notch players are here to compete. But that didn't stop us.
We got to the dorms where we were staying, which is University of Texas at Dallas. We checked in and got our room numbers but we were not rooming together. What a great way to meet new people! After we got settled, we went down to the lobby and got our USA gear. What a great feeling, to have athletic apparel that says USA on it and of course I got my favorite number of all time -- 22! Courtney and Ellen weren't so lucky. Teehee!
We finally get into the gym and get to meet the coaching staff. Let me tell you, these coaches are legends. There are four head coaches who have a combined winning record of 3,000-plus games. They definitely know what they are talking about and we are honored to have them here coaching us.
We finally go into some play. We played 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3, 4 vs. 4, and 6 vs. 6, you name the competition we played it. When we got to playing we were not intimated at all and we were just having fun. Courtney and Ellen had great first sessions and I am so glad to call them my teammates. We are having a blast and can't wait to tell everyone about our days to come. Go USA!
P.S. If anyone didn't notice in my first two paragraphs, I did change the lyrics to Miley's Cyrus's song "Party in the USA". And yes, no pun intended, we are having a party in the "USA"!
