MADISON, Wis. – Dominique Thompson, a member of the Wisconsin volleyball team, has been selected to train and compete in the U.S. Collegiate National Team (CNT), USA Volleyball announced today. Thompson was selected as one of 36 athletes who will compete at the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships from June 22 to July 1 in Minneapolis.

“I’m honored to be chosen for a US national team,” Thompson said of her first appearance in a USA uniform. “I can’t wait until this summer when I will be able to play with and compete against some of the best college players in the country. I’m also happy that it’s in Minnesota and my family will be able come watch me play.”

Thompson, a 5-11 middle blocker, was one of three Badgers who participated in the U.S. Women’s National Team open tryouts on Feb. 21-23 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

As a junior, Thompson aided Wisconsin to an NCAA runner-up finish. She was a three-time all-tournament honoree, including being named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament team. The Plymouth, Minn., native led the UW with a .323 hitting percentage, ranked third on the team with 2.66 kills per set and second with 1.01 blocks per set. She recorded double-figure kills in 21 matches, leading the Badgers in 10 matches.

After the training portion of the program, the 36 athletes will be divided into three equal teams which will compete in a round-robin event June 27-30. The round-robin event may add an international team to increase the field to four teams that would complete June 26-30. This program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Earlier this month, U.S. Collegiate National Team rosters were announced for the China Tour program and the European Tour program, which includes sophomore libero Taylor Morey. In addition, freshman Lauren Carlini has been selected to train with the U.S. National team in Anaheim, Calif., in May and June.
