MADISON, Wis. - Did you know that new director of operations Jessica Yanz likes to sing but says you probabaly wouldn't pay to hear her sing? Find out when else this former All-American setter also likes to do off the court.

Yanz comes to Wisconsin after spending the last two seasons in the same position at the University of Dayton. Yanz's job is to keep the Badgers on track off the court with team meals, travel and community service events.

Nickname: Jess

How did you get your nickname?  When I started playing volleyball in middle school, “Jess” was much easier to say than “Jessica” on the court. My mom was not happy that my teammates shortened my name.

Birthdate: Dec. 4

Hometown: Bolingbrook, Ill.

Family members: My parents are Charles and Joan Yanz. I have one brother, Matt (22).

Family members who competed in college or professional athletics: My brother Matt played volleyball at Carthage College from 2009-2012.

Hobbies/Interests: I love to take photos! I got a new camera for Christmas last year and am doing by best to try and learn how to use it. I also love to cook and bake!

The people who have influenced me most in my sport are: Kelly Sheffield and Rick Butler

Dream as a director of operations: to cater the perfect pre-game meal before we play in the national championship match.

How would you describe your job style? Overall, I’m pretty calm and collected when it comes to the director of operations responsibilities. But don’t mess with me on game day – I want everything to go perfectly for the team and coaches and will do almost anything to make sure it stays that way.

Before each match, I: rock out to music with Britt. It’s usually some combination of songs from Glee, Beyoncé, or Smash.

Most memorable volleyball achievement: my senior season at Dayton

The best thing about the UW Field House is: besides having one of the best views for DataVolley, I love the energy the crowd brings – it feels electric in the Field House!

Favorites - Movie: The Shawshank Redemption; TV Shows: Glee and Smash; Book: Harry Potter series; Car: my green Honda CR-V; Athlete: Michael Jordan; Sports team: Chicago Cubs - this is their year!

The best thing about Madison is: the lakes and outdoor activities. I can’t wait to try cross country skiing! And the cheese curds are pretty good as well.

One word that describes me: driven

My friends say I: will go out of my way for them

Persons most admired/role models: My mom and dad

My secret addiction: I love anything that has to do with owls.

If I could guest star in a TV show it would be? I would say Glee, but you really don’t want to hear me sing!

The best sporting event I ever attended was? Penn State vs. Nebraska in the 2008 semifinal match.

You won’t catch me eating: Bacon

Nobody knows how much I love to: sing in the car, but believe me, the music is turned way up for a reason.

Greatest Inventions of the last 100 years: lululemon and DataVolley

If I could live any place in the world, it would be: Madison (seriously!)

If you could spend a week anywhere in the world: touring Europe - I’ve always wanted to see the places my grandparents grew up.

If I could live in any time period, it would be: no time like the present!

If I could meet three people from throughout history they would be: Jackie Robinson, Eleanor Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln

What are you most thankful for? The opportunities presented to me throughout my life.

What are you passionate about? Life!

My favorite websites are: I am a social media junkie, so you’ll find me on all of those sites a lot.

My favorite quote or motto is: Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.

My worst habit: I chew ice

My bucket list includes:  Writing a book, seeing Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower, learning how to cross-country ski, and owning a chocolate labrador
