MADISON, Wis. – USA Volleyball has announced that Taylor Morey, a sophomore on the University of Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named to the U.S. Collegiate National Team that will compete in a tour of Europe July 8-19.
“I’m extremely excited and blessed for the opportunity to represent Wisconsin and USA volleyball in Europe this summer,” Morey said.
The 12-player team will depart July 8 with Venice, Italy, as its first destination, followed by a four-day training camp in Maribor, Slovenia. The squad will train and have friendly scrimmages with Slovenia’s national team and under-20 national team, along with other countries’ under-20 national teams. The U.S. will travel to Pula, Croatia, to compete in the Global Challenge July 13-18. The tour is being organized in conjunction with Bring It Promotions.
“This is a great opportunity for Taylor and I'm really excited for her,” UW head coach Kelly Sheffield said. “She's going to be playing with some of the best players in the country and going up against some great competition. I believe players who want to be great search out those opportunities to compete. It's how you get better. The bonus for her is that she also gets to see a little bit of Europe as well.”
Morey, a 5-8 libero, played in 146 sets as a sophomore with the Badgers, averaging 2.65 digs per set. A transfer from Notre Dame, Morey started the season at libero before moving to defensive specialist. The Muncie, Ind., native led the team in digs in 10 matches, recording double-figure saves in 17 matches, including five matches with 20-or-more digs. She earned all-tournament honors at the North Dakota State Classic.
This program is considered a second tryout for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team.
