Three Badgers to participate in USA Volleyball tryouts

MADISON, Wis. –-  Lauren Carlini, Taylor Morey and Dominique Thompson from the Wisconsin volleyball team will participate in the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Tryouts this weekend, Feb. 21-23, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Assistant coach Brittany Dildine will also serve as an on-court coach during the tryout.

The tryouts have a record number of participants with 248 athletes from 106 universities looking for spots on the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program (formerly U.S. Women’s Senior A2 Teams).

Carlini, a 6-2 setter, was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) second-team All-American in 2013. She led the Badgers and ranked third in the Big Ten Conference with 11.15 assists per set. Carlini was named the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned All-Big Ten honors.

Morey, a 5-6 libero, played in 146 sets as a sophomore with the Badgers, averaging 2.65 digs per set. She earned all-tournament honors at the North Dakota State Classic.

Thompson, a 5-11 middle blocker, was named to the NCAA Regional all-tournament team. She also earned all-tournament honors at the Pepperdine Classic and was named the most valuable player at the NC State Invitational. Thompson ranked second on the team with 1.01 blocks per set while hitting a team best .323.
