MADISON, Wis. – The awards keep coming in for the Badgers' 2013 signees. Lauren Carlini and Haleigh Nelson were named to the2012 Volleyball Magazine/Mizuno Girls’ High School All-America teams. Carlini, a 6-2 setter/hitter, was named to the first team while Nelson, a 6-3 middle blocker, earned third-team honors. The entire list is available in the February 2013 issue of the magazine.
Carlini adds the All-America award to her already impressive list of honors. The Aurora, Ill., native was named the 2012 Gatorade National Player of the Year and is the No. 1-ranked recruit by PrepVolleyball.com. Carlini was also named to the 2012 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Under Armour All-America first team.
She has earned four AAU All-America awards, leading her Sports Performance club team to numerous top-10 finishes.
Carlini played her high school volleyball at West Aurora High School. She was named the 2012 Chicago Sun Times Player of the Year and is the first player to be named the captain of the Daily Herald all-area team three times. Carlini was also named to all-state teams by the Chicago Tribune and Champaign News-Gazette.
Nelson, from Cary, N.C., was also named to the AVCA Under Armour All-America first team. She guided Cardinal Gibbons High School to its fourth-straight 3A state championship, earning most valuable player honors as a senior. Nelson was named the 2012 Carolina 6 Conference Player of the. She was a three-time all-conference selection.
Nelson also plays with Triangle Volleyball Club. She was named the 2011 winner of the Triangle Award for leadership. She was named a top-10 star at the 2012 Lone Star Classic and earned all-tournament honors at the Carolina Region championship.
