Head coach Pete Waite
"That was a tough loss. That was clearly two teams right in the (Big Ten) conference race, battling back and forth. I think our team was a little gassed tonight after going hard with Michigan last night. That's the way our schedule was laid out, we're going back-to-back and they went Wednesday to Saturday. So it makes a big difference sometimes. We weren't on our game totally, blocking was not there tonight like it was last night or at the match on Sunday. We'll rest up and get back at it."
On not keeping momentum after winning the second set:
"That's a strong (Michigan State) team. It's a team of four seniors that I have been starting since their freshman year, so they're really experienced. I think defensively, it looks closer here, but I think they dug at the right times and really kept them in system. They did a little better job than we did on that so that makes a big difference."
On Michigan State's lineup:
"The first time (we played them), (Natalie) Emro was hurt so (Kristen) Kelsay set. We've seen this lineup before, but even as we had seen them play on Wednesday, Kelsay was hurt and Emro set. Preparing for them, you just didn't really know totally what was coming out you. You knew the hitters and we knew they were really strong. (Jenilee) Rathje and (Kyndra) Abron are particularly strong and (Alexis) Matthews is just big and swats it over people. We had to serve tougher to keep them away from the net and we just didn't do that tonight."
On Michigan State's hitting:
"It's hard on the defense as it really gives their offense a lot of confidence when they are swinging like that, and we were just barely missing some of those balls. Where some nights you're all over it and timing it right and you are taking the right shots away. Today we just weren't able to."
