Madison, Wis. – In the opening match of the InnTowner Invitational, Kansas defeated Milwaukee at the Field House. The Jayhawks took all three sets, sweeping the Panthers 25-20, 25-18 and 25-10.
A balanced attack was key for Kansas (5-3) in its victory. Junior Chelsea Albers and sophomore Tiana Dockery led the Jayhawks with 10 kills each, and junior Sara McClinton followed with nine kills. Senior setter Erin McNorton led all players with 32 assists. Brianne Riley saved a team-high 12 digs. A team total 11 blocks was also critical for the Kansas defense, with Caroline Jarmoc leading all players with six.
Milwaukee (3-4) was led by junior Julie Kolinske, who recorded 13 kills. The Panthers struggled with hitting errors, combining for just a .060 team attack percentage (32 kills-25 errors -117 attempts). After two close sets, the Jayhawks dominated the third, capitalizing on Milwaukee’s negative .171 hitting percentage (5-12-41).
The InnTowner Invitational continues today with Milwaukee taking on Bowling Green at 4:30 p.m, followed by the Badgers in their home opener at 7 p.m. versus Bowling Green.
