MADISON, Wis. --Two Wisconsin alums found their way onto the podium Monday at the 2013 USA 20K Championships in New Haven, Conn.
Matt Tegenkamp defended his 20K title by clocking in at 1 hour, 40 seconds, in humid and misty conditions at the 36th Stratton Faxon New Haven Road Race. Tegenkamp, a two-time Olympian, won his sixth national overall title and his second crown this year after winning the USA 10K championship in July.
On the women’s side, former Badger Caitlin Comfort also reached the podium in her professional debut. Comfort, the 2013 Big Ten 10,000 meters champion, crossed the line in 1:10.43 to finish third against some of the nation’s best distance road runners.
Comfort will continue training for Oiselle, a women’s running apparel company, while helping out the Wisconsin women’s cross country team this fall as a volunteer assistant coach.
Also competing was 2013 Wisconsin graduate Elliot Krause, who was 13th in the men’s race in 1:02.55.
