The Badgers enjoyed their share of success in 2013-14 and now UWBadgers.com is honoring the best student-athletes, teams and performances of the year. Over the next few weeks, we’ll unveil the best of the Badgers in five categories: Big Ten Medal of Honor (June 16), Athletes of the Year (June 17-21), Team Achievements of the Year (June 22-27), Games of the Year (June 28-July 5) and Freshmen of the Year (July 13-18).

Today we feature Female Athlete of the Year nominee Deanna Latham of women’s track and field.

2013-14 In Review

MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin women’s track and field athlete Deanna Latham had a fantastic indoor season for the Badgers, winning a Big Ten title and earning All-America honors at the NCAA indoor championships.

Latham continued the Badgers’ dominance in the pentathlon at the Big Ten indoor championships, winning the school’s fifth-straight pentathlon title with a score of 4,176 points.

Two weeks later at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships, Latham again set a personal best in the pentathlon with a score of 4,253 to finish fifth and earn All-America honors. Her score ranks second in program history.

The UW junior also set the school record in the 60 hurdles at the Armory Collegiate Invitational with a time of 8.33 seconds.

The Newbury, Massachusetts, native redshirted during the outdoor season but set a personal best in the heptathlon at 5,745 points to finish second at the Bulldog Heptathlon behind eventual NCAA champion Kendell Williams.

Latham will wrap up her season later this week at the 2014 USA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, California.
