MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's track and field team continues the busy stretch of the 2013 outdoor season, with the Badgers scheduled to compete at four competitions this week.
UW will divide its resources, sending athletes to the Triton Invitational in San Diego, Calif., the Benedictine Twilight Invitational in Lisle, Ill., Cal's Brutus Hamilton Invitational and Stanford's Payton Jordan invitational.
The Badgers' busy weekend of competition begins Thursday at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational, where sophomore Kelsey Card and senior Taylor Smith will compete in the Elite section of the discus against steep competition at 3 p.m.
Smith and Card will compete in the discus for the second-straight day in the Invitational section of the discus when the meet resumes on Friday at noon at UCSD's Triton Track and Field Stadium. Wisconsin will also be represented by sophomore Angela Boushea and junior Abby Lueck in the hammer throw, and freshman Brianna Bower in the javelin.
UW's Lueck, Smith and Card will also compete head to head in the shot put.
Wisconsin will also send a number of a field event athletes and sprinters to Benedictine University's Twilight Invitational in Lisle, Ill., on Friday.
Badgers will compete in the high jump, triple jump, javelin, 100 hurdles and 400 hurdles, as well as the 100 meters and 200 meters. Field events begin at 3 p.m., while running events will start at 5 p.m.
Additionally, UW will attend Cal's Brutus Hamilton Invitational. The Brutus Hamilton Open and Distance Carnival begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, while the Brutus Hamilton Invitational Challenge will be held on Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m.
A number of Badgers will race in the open 800 meters, 1500 meters and 5000 meters on Friday at the Edwards Stadium/ Goldman Field.
On Saturday, Wisconsin's multi-event athletes -- senior Dorcas Akinniyi, junior Deanna Latham and redshirt freshman Yolanda Hayes-Barnes -- will compete in the invitational 200 meters, 100 hurdles, high jump and 4x400 relay.
Another of those multi-event competitors, freshman Taylor Twedt, returns to her home state to compete in the heptathlon at the prestigious Drake Relays beginning Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa. Twedt, who is redshirting this season, will compete unattached.
The trio of redshirt freshman Taylor Kirby and sophomores Courtney Walden and Jessica Vardas are entered in the pole vault, while senior Alexis Mitchell will represent UW in the long jump and triple jump alongside junior Laura McGinnis.
The biggest competition of the weekend will take place on Sunday at Stanford's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational, which is regarded as one of the premier track and field meets of the spring.
Wisconsin's most experienced distance runners will compete, including senior Caitlin Comfort, who will line up alongside teammate Gabrielle Anzalone in the 5000 meters.
Senior Megan Beers and sophomore Rachel McNally will run the 1500 meters, while Beutler will also represent the Badgers in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
The action begins on the Cobb Track and Angell Field with field events at 3 p.m., followed by races on the track starting at 5:20 p.m.
