MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s track and field team earned a tough, 80-72 victory over Missouri in last week’s dual meet and the Badgers looks to keep the momentum going this weekend when they host the Wisconsin Elite Invitational at the Camp Randall Memorial Sports Center (The Shell) this Friday and Saturday.
The women’s team will open competition Friday at 5 p.m. with the exhibition discus on the turf field inside the adjacent McClain Center. Field events resume Saturday at noon with the men’s pole vault, while running events are scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m. with the women’s 5000 meters.
Along with UW, the six-team meet includes DePaul, Indiana State, Marquette and Northern Illinois. Admission to the meet is free.
The Badgers are coming off of a successful weekend, as UW defeated Missouri 80-72 in a dual meet at The Shell. Laura McGinnis won the triple jump and long jump for Wisconsin to help seal the triumph in UW's only dual meet of the season. Also winning events for UW were Courtney Walden (pole vault) Emma-Lisa Murphy (mile), Erin Cawley (3000 meters), Brenna Detra (400) and Deanna Latham (60 hurdles).
After this weekend, UW will hit the road for the first time this season, sending athletes to Ames, Iowa, to compete in the Bill Bergan Invitational Jan. 30-Feb. 1. In addition, some UW athletes will compete at the Squig Converse Invitational Jan. 31 in Whitewater, Wis.
