EUGENE, Ore. -- Deanna Latham's freshman season isn't over yet.
The rookie from the Wisconsin women's track and field team extended her initial campaign Friday by capping off an outstanding performance in the heptathlon at the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Latham will have the opportunity to compete as a member of Team USA at next month's 2011 Pan American Junior Championships after posting a personal-best score of 5,205 points to finish second at Oregon's Hayward Field.
Latham, who was fourth at the Big Ten championships in May, finished second to San Diego State's Allison Reaser, who tallied a winning total of 5,359.
Personal-best marks in each of the three running events in the seven-discipline heptathlon buoyed Latham. She opened the competition Thursday with a lifetime-best run of 14.10 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and then closed the first day with a personal-best 25.03 in the 200 meters.
She followed suit on Friday, wrapping the competition with a career-best time of 2:24.38 in the 800 meters.
It all added up to a national team berth for Latham, with the Pan Am junior meet set for July 22-24 in Miramar, Fla.
Also on the juniors side, freshman Angela Boushea finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 45 feet, 2 1/2 inches. Kelsey Card won the event with a heave of 50-8 3/4.
UW alumna Megan Seidl competed in the senior women's high jump and finished 14th after clearing the opening height of 5 feet, 10 inches. She was one of six competitors unable to make it over the next bar in the progression, 6-0, but finished behind the other five on the category of misses.
Arizona's Brigetta Barret won with a clearance of 6-4 3/4.
