MADISON, Wis. -- Caitlin Comfort joined an exclusive club Sunday with her effort at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.

The Wisconsin senior was strong in a fifth-place finish in her section of the 5000 meters, clocking in at 16 minutes, 18.05 seconds. That effort allowed Comfort to crack the Badgers’ all-time top 10 in the 5000, where she joins the likes of UW legends like Cathy Branta, Kathy Butler and Stephanie Herbst.

Comfort’s time -- which shaved four seconds of her previous best -- ranks her No. 5 in the Big Ten this outdoor season in the same event in which she claimed her first conference title indoors in February.

Her teammate, redshirt freshman Gabrielle Anzalone, finished 11th in her first outdoor 5000 as a collegian by clocking in at 17:08.74.

Senior Ashley Beutler narrowly missed a personal-best run and finished third in her section of the 1500 meters in 4:24.89. Her lifetime best in the event is 4:24.78.

In a separate section of the 1500 meters, sophomore Rachel McNally took third in 4:34.03 and senior Megan Beers was fourth in 4:34.06.

With the Big Ten championships just two weeks away, Wisconsin now turns its attention to the final event of its regular season -- and its lone home meet outdoors -- the Wisconsin Invitational next Saturday, May 4.
