MADISON, Wis. -- The second day of the Mt. SAC Relays opened with a seventh-place performance in the pole vault by freshman Courtney Walden for the Wisconsin women's track and field team in Walnut, Calif.
Walden cleared a personal-best height of 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches to match the No. 6 performance in Wisconsin history.
In the triple jump, senior Jordan Helgren placed third with a leap of 39 feet, 2 1/2 inches.
Senior Monika Jakutyte jumped for the third-highest clearance in the competition to take sixth place, getting over the bar at 5-8 3/4.
On the track, junior Brittney Harper ran the 800 meters with a field of 90 athletes to take 28th place. Harper ran a career-best time of 2 minutes, 8.79 seconds.
In the 5,000 meters, senior Kyla Chapman ran a personal-best time of 16:46.10 to take 12th in the event.
Wisconsin also competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific in nearby Azusa, Calif.
Two Badgers had top-30 finishes in a 79-athlete field in the 1,500 meters.
Senior Megan Beers took 12th with a time of 4:36.30 and sophomore Lavinia Jurkiewicz followed in 28th at 4:42.85.
Sophomore Liga Blyholder was the last to compete for Wisconsin. Blyholder took second in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:10.89.
The Mt. SAC Relays concludes Saturday with the final day of competition. The Badgers also compete in the throws at the Musco Twilight Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
