MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin women’s tennis coach Brian Fleishman announced the signing of Sarah Loebel of Hamburg, Germany, to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Wisconsin next fall.
“Sarah is going to be a great asset to the growth of our program,” Fleishman said. “She is a great competitor and works extremely hard to achieve her goals. Sarah will come into the program and make an impact right away.”
Loebel is a member of the women’s club tennis team at the SV Blankenese. She has competed at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the women’s team the past two years and also played at No. 1 in the under-18 club for four years. Loebel won the Hamburg team championship with the under-18 team in 2009 and 2010; her team finished as runner-up in 2008.
Loebel is currently ranked No. 90 in the German women’s tennis rankings and No. 16 in the under-18 rankings. She won the Hamburg championship in singles as a junior and was recognized as 2009 athlete of the year by a regional newspaper.
The 5-7 Loebel also brings international touring experience to the Badgers. She has played several European tennis tournaments and ITF junior tournaments. Loebel reached the No. 26 under-16 ranking in the Tennis Europe rankings as well.
