MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin women's tennis team's fall season will come to a close this weekend, as the Badgers compete in the ITA Regionals in Champaign, Ill., from Oct. 18-21. Senior Hannah Berner will join freshmen Lauren Burich and Lauren Chypyha to make the trip, along with Wisconsin head coach Brian Fleishman.
The tournament is one of the headline events of the fall season, as players from 25 Midwest teams will meet to battle for a berth in the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships, Nov. 8-11 at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Freshmen Katie Hoch, Helen Rabot and Pernilla Wohlstrom will also be in action this weekend, as they compete in the Alternate Regionals in Rockford, Ill. Competition kicks off on Friday, Oct. 19 and ends on Sunday, Oct. 21.
This weekend marks the culmination of a successful fall season for the Badgers. Among many highlights, Lauren Chypyha won the Draw B singles championship at the Spartan Invitational earlier this month, and Hannah Berner scored a pair of singles victories and a doubles win (with partner Chypyha) at the Wildcat Invite last weekend.
After the conclusion of the ITA Regionals, the Badgers will get a three month break from competition. They will return to the courts on Jan. 26, when they travel to Durham, N.C. to face Duke.
