Final Stats

– The Wisconsin women’s tennis team wrapped up their first competition of the fall season at the Gopher Invitational on Sunday.

“At the end of the day, we all, coaches and players, will take a lot away from this weekend,” UW head coach Tina Samara said Sunday. “We have some injuries that need to be taken care of, but Matt (Manasse) and I see a lot of potential in this young group.

“Now we need to get back on the courts and work very hard on the weaknesses we have. Winning is always nice, but right now it’s about improving each week.”

In singles play, Anastasia Tripolskaya claimed victory over Mariel Ante of Drake, 6-3, 6-0 to win third place in the Gold Flight.

In the M Flight, Lauren Chypyha won in tie-breakers against Natallia Pintusava of Minnesota, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (7), to claim fifth place. Teammate Sydney Rider earned eighth place in the same flight, when Nell Boyd of Drake defeated her, 7-5, 7-5.

Sophomore Helen Rabot claimed eighth place as well in the U Flight. Rabot was defeated, 6-2, 6-1, by Julia Courter of Minnesota.

Pernilla Wolhstrom finished 12th in the Maroon Flight following a Sunday loss to Iowa State's Ana Gasparaovic.

In doubles play, Pernilla Wohlstrom and Triposkaya were defeated by Vujlic and Umanets of Minnesota in the Maroon Flight. Wohlstrom and Triposkaya earned eighth place.

The team of Chypyha and Rider took seventh place in the Gold Flight. They defeated Pronina and Gasparaovic of Iowa State, 8-4. In the same flight, Katie Hoch and Rabot were defeated by Budai and Cassens of Iowa State earning them a 14th-place finish.

An extra game was played with the team of Rabot and Tripolskaya falling, 8-5, to Minnesota’s Vujlic and Umanets.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Wisconsin women’s tennis team advanced in singles play in the Gopher Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Anastasia Tripolskaya, claimed victory in tie-breakers against Yuliana Umanets of Minnesota, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) in the second match. Tripolskaya then lost to Maddie Johnson of Drake, 6-4, 6-4. She will play for third in the Gold Flight on Sunday.

Lauren Chypyha lost in tie-breakers in the second match against Tereza Brichacova of Minnesota, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (8). Chypyha then defeated Nell Boyd of Drake, 6-2, 6-2. She will play for fifth in the M Flight on Sunday.

Helen Rabot lost 6-2, 6-0, to Aria Lambert of Minnesota in the second match. In the third match, Rabot lost to Samantha Polayes of Gonzaga, 6-4, 6-2. On Sunday, Rabot will play for seventh in the U Flight.

Freshmen Sydney Rider, lost to Diana Davitaia of Eastern Michigan, 6-3, 6-3. She then went on to lose to Natallia Pintusava of Minnesota, 6-2, 6-1. Rider will now play for seventh in the M Flight on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After winning two of three doubles matches on day one, the Wisconsin women’s tennis team had a rough second day at the Gopher Invitational.

The duo of Pernilla Wohlstrom and Anastasia Triposkaya lost a tight second-round match to Jessika Mozia and Kendall Heitzner of Minnesota 8-6. They also lost their third match of the tournament to Kylie Peek/Samantha Polayes of Gonzaga 8-5. They will play for seventh place in the Maroon Flight on Sunday.

The sophomore team Katie Hoch and Helen Rabot lost in tie-breakers to Astrid Santos and Erica Medin of Northern Iowa 8-7 (5) in the second round. The pair claimed victory in their third round match, defeating Melanie Yates and Katie Edwards of Gonzaga, 8-4.

Teammates Lauren Chyphya and Sydney Rider dropped an 8-3 decision to Natallia Pintusava and Julia Courter of Minnesota. In the third round, the two lost a tight match to Diana Davitia and Maria Paula Ribero of Eastern Michigan, falling in tie-breakers, 9-8 (3). Chyphya and Rider will play for seventh in the Gold Flight on Sunday.

All three Badgers’ doubles teams will continue play tomorrow morning starting at 9 a.m. (CT).

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin women’s tennis team started the fall season in impressive fashion Friday morning at the Gopher Invitational. The Badgers came away with an impressive 4-0 record in singles play and a 2-1 mark in doubles action on the opening day of the three-day tournament.

“Most importantly everyone competed hard, which really helps us as coaches to know what we need to go home and work on,” head coach Tina Samara said. “The good news is everything we saw today that needs work are things that we can improve on this fall season.” 

The Badgers started the morning off in doubles play taking two out of the three matches. Teammates Pernilla Wohlstrom and Anastasia Triposkaya defeated Tacy Haws-Lay and Tiffany Filipovich of South Dakota State, 8-1. The pair of Lauren Chyphya and Sydney Rider also won their opening-round match, 8-6, over Iowa State’s Samantha Budai and Meghan Cassens.

In singles play, the Badgers swept through first round competition, winning all four of their matches. Anastasia Triposkaya breezed past Mikaela Bennett of North Dakota, 6-1, 6-1.

Fighting a battle on her court, Lauren Chypyha defeated Gonzaga’s Katie Edwards in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

In her first collegiate match, freshmen Sydney Rider came back from a first-set loss to beat Iowa’s Morven McCulloch, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (6).                                               

Sophomore Helen Rabot also came back for a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) win against Klavidja Rebol of Drake.

The Gopher Invitational continues Saturday at Noon.
