MADISON, Wis. – For the 12th-straight time, the Wisconsin women’s tennis team got the better of Marquette. Sunday’s 4-3 victory also marked the sixth-straight win for the Badgers on the Golden Eagles’ home court.

The Badgers recorded their seventh victory of the season and snapped Marquette’s four-game win-streak. Both teams are now 7-2.

In all seven Wisconsin victories this season, UW has won the doubles point. On Sunday, the Badgers used wins from courts one and two to take a 1-0 advantage into singles competition.

Junior Hannah Berner and senior Alaina Trgovich earned an 8-6 victory over Gillian Hush and Olga Fisher at the No. 1 spot.

At No. 2 doubles, the senior duo of Angela Chupa and Aleksandra Markovic overcame four ties to record a 9-8 victory over Ana Pimienta and Rocio Diaz.

Sophomore Nicky Stracar and senior Lauren Gruber surrendered UW’s only doubles defeat of the day at No. 3. The pair came up short against Kristina Radan and Ali Dawson, 8-3.

Singles victories at courts three, four and six led the Badgers to victory.

Trgovich lead the entire match at court three on her way to a 6-2, 6-2 defeat over Dawson.

Competing at No. 4, freshman Sarah Loebel tallied another win for UW, ousting Pimienta, 6-4, 6-3.

Sophomore Caroline Bauer maintained her undefeated record with a win at the No. 6 spot. Although Bauer faced a 5-4 deficit in the second set, she managed to defeat Radan in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.

Despite earning an early break in the first set, Stracar was unable to maintain the advantage as she dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Fischer at the top spot for UW.

At No. 2, Berner kept it close, but was unable to overcome the strong play of Gillian Hush, losing both sets in a tiebreak. The Badger junior became the ninth-straight opponent to fall to Hush this season. The undefeated Golden Eagle topped Berner, 7-6, 7-6.

It took three sets to take down Markovic at court five, where Diaz bested the Badger senior, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6.

After a three-game road swing, the Badgers return to Madison to host Minnesota in the teams’ Big Ten opener. The teams are set to square off Sunday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
