MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team appeared in the 24th spot in the initial Endless Pools / CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 poll Tuesday. The ranking puts them in good company as they are just one-of-six Big Ten squads to appear in the poll.

The top-ranked Big Ten team is No. 7 Indiana, followed by No. 9 Minnesota, No. 17 Michigan and No. 19 Purdue. Penn State rounded out the rankings at No. 25.

The University of Georgia grabbed the top spot overall, followed by Texas and Virginia. Wisconsin will face Virginia in late January.

Other season opponents for the Badgers making an appearance in the poll includes Michigan and Minnesota, who Wisconsin has already swum against, as well as No. 12 California and No. 6 USC.

The Endless Pools/ CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 poll uses a mathematical formula to determine rankings. For each meet all individuals are ranked according to their percentile.  These are then compiled into a team score.  (There is a minimum of 27 swims necessary to calculate a team score).  The Endless Pools / CollegeSwimming.com Top 25 takes the best team performance over a three-week period.

The Badgers take to the pool this weekend, traveling to face Stanford Friday and the No. 12 Golden Bears Saturday.
