MADISON, Wis. -- Following Wisconsin’s dominating weekend against in-state foes Milwaukee and Green Bay, the Badgers ran away with the Big Ten weekly awards, sweeping the men’s honors, while sophomore Ivy Martin earned Big Ten women’s Co-Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
After garnering four first-place finishes, including a pair of dominant performances in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events against Milwaukee and Green Bay, respectively, Martin earned her first-career Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honor.
Senior Dan Lester took home the fourth weekly award of his career, being named the men’s Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, after sweeping all three of his events during both dual meets. Lester posted first-place finishes in both the 100 and 200 butterfly against both Milwaukee and Green Bay, while anchoring the 200 and 400 medley relay squads in consecutive days.
Freshmen Logan Knauss and John Bushman both earned their first weekly honors, as Knauss garnered Big Ten Diver of the Week and Bushmann was named Freshman of the Week. Knauss used a pair of dominant performances in the 1 and 3-meter diving events on Saturday against Green Bay, earning top finishes in both events.
Bushman -- regarded as one of the top freshmen swimmers in the country -- garnered Wisconsin’s first-ever Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor following a trio of first-place finishes this weekend. The newcomer won both the 100 and 200 freestyle events against Milwaukee, before finishing second in the 1000 freestyle against Green Bay.
Wisconsin will have a week off from competition before traveling to Minnesota to take on the Gophers on Friday, Oct. 26.
