MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin swimmers Ashley Wanland and Michael Weiss competed in the semifinals for the 100-meter breast and 200 free, respectively, on Tuesday at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Wanland started the day by posting a time of 1:08.07 in the 14th heat of the 100 breast, claiming the sixth fastest time. In the semifinals she bested her performance, claiming fourth with a time of 1:07.23. Wanland will race in the finals on Wednesday night.
Weiss completed his third event in two days, advancing to the semifinals of the 200 free. He posted a personal best of 1:49.49 in the event, but failed to advance to the finals with a 16th-place finish in the semifinals.
“It has been a goal for me to make it into the trials for awhile and coming into my first trials and having such great success has meant a lot to me,” Weiss said. “It’s incredible to be in the semifinals.”
Weiss has already competed in the 400 IM and the 400 free earlier this week. Weiss placed fifth in the 400 IM final. He will next compete in the 200 breast on Thursday and the 200 IM on Friday.
