Three current and former UW swimmers competed in events Tuesday in Indianapolis, Ind. at the Indiana University Natatorium. Seniors Carly Piper (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and Tim Liebhold (Chapel Hill, N.C.) both finished in top-10 in their events at the World Championship Trials.
Piper qualified sixth with a time of 8:47.80 in the 800-meter freestyle, then finished seventh in the finals (8:45.58). Liebhold placed 10th in the final of the 200-meter backstroke (2:03.25) after qualifying 10th in 2:04.52.
Former Badger Bethany Pendleton placed 39th in the prelims of the 100-meter freestyle, but did not advance to the finals.
Tomorrow Piper will compete in the final event of the World Championship Trials as she swims in the 1500-meter freestyle.
