MADISON, Wis. – Behind a pair of pool record performances, including a top-10 time in the country in the 50-yard freestyle at this weekend’s Big Ten Quad Duals, sophomore swimmer Ivy Martin earned the Big Ten’s Swimmer of the Week honor, the conference announced Tuesday.
Martin garnered five first-place finishes at the Big Ten Quad Duals, erasing a 15-year-old school record in the 100-yard freestyle (49.75) and setting a new Natatorium pool record in the 50-yard freestyle (22.32).
A week after breaking the pool record in the 50-yard freestyle at the University of Virginia Aquatic and Fitness Center, Martin swam the sixth-fastest time in the country in that event at the quad duals, beating her previous personal best time by four-tenths of a second.
The sophomore also guided a trio of relays to first-place finishes, as Wisconsin’s 200-yard medley relay (1:39.92), 200-yard relay (1:31.38) and 400-yard relay (3:19.82) teams all won their respective events.
This is Martin’s second Big Ten Swimmer of Week honor this season.
The Badgers are now preparing for the Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, which runs from Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis, Minn., for the women. The men’s Big Ten championships will take place in Bloomington, Ind., Feb. 27-March 2.
