MADISON, Wis. -- With a phenomenal season, Wisconsin softball posted the best record in school history in 2012 (34-19). The newly updated record book breaks down the records into categories. Check out which records the team and individual players shattered this year with the Record Book.
This past season, Mary Massei hit three home runs at Illinois, setting a school record for a single game in the 10-7 Wisconsin victory. Molly Spence also set a UW record by hitting two sacrifice flies against San Diego.
Single Game Records
As a team, the Badgers posted a UW-best batting average, on base percentage, runs, doubles and RBI in 2012. Wisconsin also recorded the most Big Ten wins and best home and road winning percentages in program history this season.
Single Season Team Records
Individually, Whitney Massey crushed the record for doubles in a single season with 22. Cassandra Darrah raked in 22 wins in 2012, ranking third in Wisconsin history. As a freshman, Maria Van Abel sits in first for batting average and stolen bases with her efforts this season.
Single Season Individual Records
Even with the youth of the Wisconsin softball team, career records were broken. Mary Massei sits in first for batting average, while Cassandra Darrah has the best winning percentage amongst all Badgers in program history. Shannel Blackshear is closing in on three career records, as she currently ranks second in on base percentage, home runs and RBI.
