MADISON, Wis. -- Freshman Sara Novak had a huge impact on last week's games, hitting .500 with a 1.100 slugging percentage and blasting the first two home runs of her career. For her impressive play on the field, Novak was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, marking the second Badger to win the award this season.
The Shorewood, Ill., native, has played in 19 of UW's 27 games this season, making starts at shortstop and second base and even appearing in the pitcher's circle.
Novak was hit by a pitch four times in games against Louisville and Northwestern, helping to produce an on-base percentage of .643. The second of her home runs ignited a seven-run rally in the top of the seventh inning that propelled the Badgers to a 7-5 come-from-behind victory at Northwestern on Sunday.
