MADISON, Wis. -- A record-setting weekend deserves praise and that is what the Badgers got Monday as Mary Massei and Taylor-Paige Stewart each earned Big Ten weekly honors. Massei was named Big Ten Player of the Week, while Stewart earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

Massei finished the week with a .571 average, driving in nine runs and scoring seven to help the Badgers to a 6-0 record over the weekend. The junior leftfielder is on an 11-game hitting streak, which includes a four-hit effort in Saturday’s game against Boston. Massei finished with five extra base hits on the week to finish with a .952 slugging percentage, while also going 2-for-2 on the base paths.

Stewart posted a win and a save in the circle against Boston University and Georgia Southern, respectively, posting a spotless ERA. The freshman pitched three innings to earn the save against Boston on Feb. 23, scattering two hits while striking out two. She then hurled a complete-game shutout -- her second of the season -- against Georgia Southern, fanning eight against just five hits.

The honors are firsts for Massei and Stewart and mark just the second time in UW history that two players have earned Big Ten weekly awards in the same week.
