MADISON, Wis. – With 16 games that feature opponents that are ranked or receiving votes in the 2014 USA Today/NFCA Division I Preseason Top 25 Poll, the Wisconsin softball team has put together one of the most difficult schedules in school history.
“This is the toughest schedule we’ve ever put together,” said UW head coach Yvette Healy. “We’ll have a few opportunities each weekend to knock off a nationally-ranked team.
“Opening weekend will set the tone for the season, with three games against top 25 teams,” continued Healy. “What an amazing opportunity to face the best teams in the country, week in and week out.”
Wisconsin opens play with a doubleheader against No. 4 Florida and No. 25 USF on Feb. 7. The Badgers conclude their first road trip of the year with a second game against the Gators on Feb. 9
After a tough trip to Miami on Feb. 14-16 that includes games against Florida Gulf Coast and Florida International, UW travels to College Station, Texas, where it will take the field against No. 11 Texas A&M twice.
The Badgers’ trip to Fullerton, Calif., March 7-9 features four opponents in the poll. Wisconsin will play No. 3 Washington and No. 7 Arizona State, along with Arizona and Long Beach State, which both received votes.
UW’s tough non-conference stretch concludes on March 17 with a pair of contests against No. 19 Louisville.
The Badgers’ Big Ten season wraps up with a doubleheader against No. 9 Nebraska on April 30 and a three-game series at No. 5 Michigan on May 2-4.
