WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Wisconsin scored seven runs on 11 hits in the second game of a Big Ten Conference doubleheader at Purdue Saturday afternoon to win its school-record 12th league game of the season. With the win, the Badgers become the fastest team in school history to reach 30 wins, improving to 30-14 on the season.

 Fast Facts
• Massey sets single-season double record (15)
• Darrah earns 20th win of season
• Blackshear hits 21st career home run

In the day's first game, Purdue (29-17, 11-5) scored seven runs on 11 hits and capitalized on three UW errors.

Purdue took advantage of two Wisconsin errors in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. The Boilermakers scattered four hits in the third inning, knocking UW starting pitcher Cassandra Darrah out of the game. Amanda Najdek entered the game in relief with one out, but the damage had been done and Purdue held a 4-0 lead.

Wisconsin fought back in the fourth inning, scoring one run on three hits, but Purdue tacked on another run in the bottom of the inning to go ahead by four, 5-1.

A solo home run by Whitney Massey in the top of the fifth, cut the Boilermaker's lead to three, 5-2, but the Badgers were unable to come any closer, falling 7-2. Darrah suffered the loss on the mound, pitching two and one-third innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits.

Wisconsin came out fighting in game two of the doubleheader, kicking off the game with a two-run homer by Shannel Blackshear. It was Blackshear's 21st career long ball, moving her into sole possession of second on the UW career record list.

Purdue scored a run in the bottom of the first to cut UW's lead to one. Darrah entered the game to replace Meghan McIntosh with one out and the bases loaded, retiring Purdue's Erika Petruzzi on a fly out to shortstop and striking out Maia Monchek to end the inning.

The game went into cruise control, as the Badgers played tight defense behind Darrah.

Wisconsin broke open the game in the fifth inning, capitalizing on three hits and three errors to score four runs and take a 6-1 lead.

Back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning scored another Badger run. Mary Massei doubled to right-center field and scored when Massey broke the UW single-season record with her 15th double of the season, giving UW a 7-1 lead.

Darrah retired the final six batters to earn her 20th win of the season. Darrah pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six.

The 2012 Badgers become the quickest team to reach 30 wins in program history, reaching the mark in 44 games. The 2002 squad reached the 30 win mark in 48 games.

UW also becomes the first team to record 12 Big Ten wins in a season. In 1999, 2002 and 2005, UW recorded 11 league wins.

Wisconsin and Purdue will meet to decide the series on Sunday, April 29 at noon CT. The Badgers and the Boilermakers are locked in a battle for second place in the Big Ten, with a half-game difference between the two teams. Nebraska has also joined the battle for second place, winning two games over Michigan State to improve to 12-5 in Big Ten play.
