CHICAGO, Ill. -- One big swing by Stephanie Peace led the Wisconsin softball team to a 5-0 victory over UIC Tuesday afternoon in Chicago. Peace ripped a three-run home run in the fourth inning to lead the Badgers to victory.

With runners on second and third in the top of the fourth, Peace stepped in and sent the third pitch of the at bat over the top of the scoreboard to give Wisconsin a 3-0 lead.

The Badgers added a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to earn the 5-0 win.

The game was a pitcher’s duel in the first three innings. UIC starting pitcher Devin Miller struck out four of the first eight Wisconsin hitters she faced. While UW starting pitcher Cassandra Darrah held UIC to just three hits in the first three innings of action.

Wisconsin had runners in scoring position in the third inning, but ran itself out of the inning.  

Darrah scattered four hits in seven innings of work, recording one walk and three strikeouts. It was Darrah’ s 12th complete game of the season and fifth shutout.

Wisconsin (15-12) out-hit UIC (15-17) 10-4 and committed one error.

The Badgers continue their Windy City tour on Wednesday when they meet up with Loyola Chicago for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
