SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Wisconsin's record-tying win streak was stopped at eight games on Friday at the San Diego Classic as the Badgers fell to host-San Diego State, 6-0.

The Aztecs (14-13) scored two runs in the first inning and starting pitcher Bailey Micetich did the rest, limiting the Badgers (14-8) to just four hits and recording eight strikeouts in seven innings of work.

• Badgers win streak snapped at eight games
• UW shut out for fourth time in 2011
• Blackshear posts two hits in loss

Meghan McIntosh picked up the loss for UW, dropping her record to 5-7. McIntosh pitched four and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs but only two of the runs were earned. The sophomore also walked four, struck out two and gave up five hits.

After the Badgers went 1-2-3 in the first inning, San Diego State scored all the runs it would need in the bottom of the inning.

With two outs and runners on first and second, Hayley Miles walked to load the bases. Kristin May then singled sharply to right field to drive in what would be the eventual winning run.

The bases remained full after May's single and Eva Sahatdjian followed with a walk to bring in the game's second run. McIntosh halted the damage there by getting Ashley Rose to strike out looking.

Kendall Grimm picked up the Badgers' first hit of the game in the third inning. After Jordan Skinner struck out, Stephanie Peace sacrificed Grimm to second. Grimm then stole third but the inning ended as Jennifer Krueger struck out swinging.

The Badgers had another scoring chance in the following inning as Shannel Blackshear singled through the right side with two outs. Right fielder Jessica Camello let the ball get past her all the way to the wall, enabling Blackshear to reach third base. For the second inning in a row though, Wisconsin couldn't bring in the run as Michelle Mueller struck out.

San Diego State blew the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs on two hits, one error and one walk.

Wisconsin concludes its 10-day, 14-game spring break trip on Saturday with two more games at the San Diego Classic. Played on the campus of the University of San Diego, UW takes on Louisville at 1 p.m. (CT) and then San Diego at 6 p.m. (CT).
