MIAMI, Fla.-- Facing a strong Georgia Southern softball team, Wisconsin couldn't get anything going Friday morning at the FIU Classic in Miami, Fla. The Badgers struggled on offense and defense in a 4-0 loss to the Eagles.

Georgia Southern (4-1) opened play with some small ball, using a bunt single, stolen base and a sacrifice bunt to move the runner to third. Another bunt scored the game's first run, giving the Eagles an early 1-0 lead.

Wisconsin (2-3) matched the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, when Mary Massei led off with a single and Maria Van Abel followed with a bunt single. A single by Michelle Mueller loaded the bases, but Georgia Southern's Sarah Purvis induced a pair of strikeouts to end UW's scoring threat.

The fourth inning proved to be the Badgers' Achilles heel as the Eagles scored three runs, two unearned, on two hits and three UW errors.

Cassandra Darrah pitched all seven innings, giving up eight hits, walking six and striking out two.

Purvis posted a complete-game shutout for the Eagles, allowing six UW hits, walking five and striking out eight.

Wisconsin continues play at the FIU Classic at 12:30 p.m. CT against Florida Gulf Coast.
