MADISON, Wis. – Following a successful 2012 season, which included Wisconsin eclipsing 12 wins for the fourth time in the last decade, the Badgers celebrated their achievements by hosting their annual team banquet on Sunday afternoon.
The banquet was highlighted by the senior video, which celebrated all seven seniors and their time at Wisconsin. Head coach Paula Wilkins also announced individual award winners for the 2012 season.
UW Player of the Year honors went to freshman Lexi Peterson, while sophomore Cara Walls garnered the Offensive Player of the Year award. Senior Lindsey Johnson was tabbed Wisconsin’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Peterson was one of three Badgers named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team following her solid debut season. The Wheaton, Ill., native started in all 21 games for UW, anchoring the backline while also recording her first career goal at Penn State.
Walls led the Badgers in goals (10) for the second-straight season and was a second team All-Big ten selection, a season after earning All-Big Ten Freshman team honors. Walls finished ninth in the conference in goals and tied for 10th in points (21). The sophomore posted three multi-goal games in 2012, including a pair of game-winning scores.
A native of Sussex, Wis., Johnson concluded her career at UW with three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2009. Johnson’s solid play at defender garnered her Defensive Player of the Year honors, as she guided a pair of freshmen teammates along the backline as well.
Aside from Peterson, Walls and Johnson, freshman Brianna Stelzer (Most Improved) and redshirt-sophomore Kodee Williams (Unsung Hero) also earned individual team awards for their contributions during the 2012 season.
