MADISON, Wis. -- Already holding the honor of 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Rose Lavelle added another distinction to her impressive resume on Friday, earning NSCAA/Continental Tire third-team All-Great Lakes Region honors.
In a season where Lavelle led all Big Ten freshman in assists (7) and finished third among all Badgers in points (19) and goals (6), Lavelle also guided the Badgers to one of the best starts in program history.
Despite starting the season with the youngest team in the Big Ten and four consecutive road matches, UW got off to an 8-1-1 start, with Lavelle accounting for 14 points during that stretch.
Aside from earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Lavelle also wrapped up first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2013.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Lavelle is the first player in UW history to be tabbed conference freshman of the year. During the regular season, Lavelle tied for eighth in the conference in assists (7), leading all Big Ten freshman in that category. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 16 following a seven-point performance which included a pair of goals and three assists over a two-game span.
Lavelle joins former Badgers Monica Lam-Feist (2012), Michele Dalton (2011), Lindsey Johnson (2011) and Alev Kelter (2009) as recent All-Region honorees. She is also the first UW player to earn first-team All-Big Ten accolades since Dalton earned the honor in 2011.
