MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women’s soccer team (10-4-4, 7-1-2 Big Ten) will gather Monday afternoon to watch the 2010 NCAA Division I Selection Show, revealing the tournament bracket on ESPNU at 3:30 p.m. (CT). The NCAA first round takes place Friday, Nov. 12 and the second round is slated for Sunday, Nov. 14.
The Cardinal and White, who placed third in the Big Ten Conference, look to receive their 16th NCAA tournament bid in program history after tying for its best league finish since 2000. The Badgers also placed third in the conference last year, the best finish since the 2000 squad took second place.
Last year, the Badgers made their 15th appearance in the NCAA tournament dating back to 1985. The 2009 squad advanced to the third round and final 16 teams for the first time since 1993, when the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament (which also included 16 teams). The Badgers best national tournament finish came in 1991, when the Cardinal and White fell to the University of North Carolina, 3-1, in the championship game.
Wilkins looks to take a trip to the tournament for the eighth time in her career as a head coach. In her six years as head coach at Penn State, the Nittany Lions made it to the tournament every year. Last year’s bid marked Wilkins’ first bid as head coach of the Badgers and seventh bid in her career.
