MADISON, Wis. - A 2-0 win over Nebraska on Friday has garnered conference accolades for two members of the Wisconsin women's soccer team, the Big Ten announced Monday.

Wisconsin forward Cara Walls was named the co-Big Ten Freshman of the Week, along with Becca Roberts of Minnesota. It's the third time Walls has won the award this season.

In addition, Wisconsin goalkeeper Michele Dalton was honored for the first time this season -- and the fifth time in her career -- as the co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, sharing the award with Illinois' Jenna Carosio.

Walls scored her team-best seventh goal of the season in the Badgers' shutout win over the Huskers. On the goal, Laurie Nosbusch got the ball in transition and drew a defender in before flicking it through to Walls, who slotted it into the net.

It was Walls' third game-winning goal of the season. With her seven goals, Walls has the most by a UW freshman since Nosbusch had seven in 2008.

Walls' two previous awards came after a four-point (two goals) effort in a 2-1 win against Michigan State, and a five-point (two goals, one assist) weekend against No. 23 Washington and Green Bay. Since the Freshman of the Week was added was by the Big Ten in 2009, Walls becomes the first Badger to win the award three times.

In earning her first Defensive Player of the Week honors since Oct. 4, 2010, Dalton set a season high with 11 saves. After making six saves in the first half, she came back with five more in the second period to finish one save shy of her career high of 12. It was also Dalton's fifth clean sheet of the season.

With Dalton and Walls being honored, it's the first time Wisconsin had multiple players recognized by the Big Ten in the same week since Dalton and Nosbusch were tabbed on Sept. 20, 2010.

The win over Nebraska bumped Wisconsin up to second in the Big Ten standings with 11 points and a record of 8-4-2 (3-1-2).

The Badgers return to action this weekend with their final two road games of the season. UW plays at Northwestern at 7 p.m. on Friday before facing Illinois at 4 p.m. on Sunday. The game against the Illini will air live on the Big Ten Network.
